There is little doubt that Bulgaria will eventually pick a fight with Turkey, even though it officially rejects revolutionary propaganda. Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria does not want war, but the people’s strong emotions will likely push him into it. Greece will likely support Turkey, and Serbia will probably make a deal with Bulgaria. France and England might succeed in preventing the other Great Powers from getting involved, but Turkey will definitely have Germany as a financial ally.
Bulgaria’s Preparation for War
Right now, Bulgaria is busy preparing for war, much like Japan did for its conflict with Russia. The difference is that Russia did not expect war, but Turkey does, and it is also preparing. Turkey is ready and, in many places, eager for the fight. While Bulgaria is very well-equipped, I believe it would be a mistake to think that Bulgaria can easily march through Turkey. However, I do feel that, in the end, Bulgaria’s army will be victorious Education and Equality for Women in Bulgaria.
The Aftermath of Bulgaria’s Victory
Once Bulgaria wins, it will want to claim all the rewards of its victory. This will create a serious crisis for the peace of all of Europe. Countries like Austria, Germany, Russia, and possibly Italy will not be happy with the rise of another power in the Near East. Smaller countries like Romania and Montenegro, who just want to be left alone, will not stay quiet if they feel their future is in danger. Albania, too, will likely rise in rebellion.
A Pessimistic Outlook
I know the picture I’m painting is dark and pessimistic, but it’s no darker than the reality that diplomats see when they understand the true nature of the Balkan problem. There is a small hope, as I mentioned earlier, that a solution could be found through a Balkan Confederation that includes Turkey. But that seems more like an ideal than a likely solution travel ottoman bulgaria.
Germany’s Role in the Balkans
At the moment, Germany is not involved in the reforms of Macedonia or in limiting the Sultan’s power. However, Germany’s position is worrying. Their policy seems to be to extend their influence. If they help Turkey, their price will be concessions, protectorates, and eventually, territories. But if Turkey is defeated, Germany knows, as everyone else does, that the Balkans will become a chaotic and unstable region. Germany expects to be the power that will control the situation and defeat its rivals. Over the weakened nations, Germany will march toward the Aegean Sea, but it will be a bloody path.
